Rain City Slam Presents 2016 Grand Slam- Nine local poets lay their best performances on the stage in hopes of winning one of four spots on Rain City’s National Team, representing Seattle at the National Poetry Slam in Georgia this summer.
Hale's Ale Palladium, April 13th, 2016, 7PM- An amazing, all-ages, all welcome, night filled with extraordinary poetry by some of Seattle’s best poets, the 2016 Grand Slam is what local poets have been writing, performing and competing for all season long. The finalists Ian Martinez, Elisa Chavez, Dalin Costello, Maya Hersh, Ms. Mac, Joshua Koets, Ben Yisrael, Shanna Alden, and Anna Coumou, represent all walks of life in the Seattle region. The evening will feature Allie Marini, managing editor for the NonBinary Review, Unbound Octavo, and Zoetic Press. She is the author of ten books including Southern Cryptozoology: A Field Guide To Beasts Of The Southern Wild (Hyacinth Girl Press) and founder and co-editor of Lucky Bastard Press with her partner (and 2016 Grand Slam Spotlight) performance poet B Deep. Our 2016 Grand Slam host is the amazingly talented, always inspiring poet, educator, and author Imani Sims. Doors open at 6PM. This $10 suggested donation event is an annual Rain City Slam fundraiser.
About Rain City Slam- The mission of Rain City Slam, a 501(c)3 non-profit project of CascadiaNow!, is to provide a headquarters for Seattle Spoken Word Poets of all ages to create, learn, teach and find a poetry community. Our vision is to establish a safe space where poetry can be discovered, inspired, learned and showcased without boundaries. We provide an open mic that allows any voice to be heard; community showcases that promote new work; writing circles to ensure time, space and support for writing; featured poets to inspire our community as well provide a place for reading and engaging the Seattle community, and a slam competition to assist in artistic growth, build confidence and challenge poets to think about the translation of their work to the rest of the world.
