Do you need a background check for your project employee or volunteer? Washington State requires a background check for all employees or volunteers “who will or may have unsupervised access to children under sixteen years of age.” Oregon law requires “screening an individual who is a volunteer for the school district, private school or public charter school and who has direct, unsupervised contact with school children, or for screening applicants for employment.” We recommend background checks for all volunteers working with vulnerable populations such as people with disabilities, seniors, and children.
