Welcome New Wilderness Project NW as CascadiaNow!'s New Fiscally Sponsored Project

The mission of New Wilderness Project NW (NWPNW) is to grow understanding and empathy across cultural differences, foster human dignity, address and reduce educational disparities, and nurture deep social and environmental stewardship in the Cascadia Region through arts based, experiential leadership programs in 6-12 public education and in partnership with universities, independent schools, and nonprofit organizations. CascadiaNow! is proud to announce that our Board of Directors has unanimously voted to adopt NWPNW as a fiscally sponsored project! Look for exciting updates from this project including:

  • Produce the New Wilderness Project program for 100 middle school youth from Auburn School District in Auburn, WA, offering five sessions throughout the school year, culminating in a “Listen Up” final youth celebration/ performance in June.

  • Offer 3-5 day High School programs in Everett, Nooksack, and Bellingham school districts in Washington State.

  • Begin a two year process with Paiute and Nez Perce youth in Idaho and Oregon in 2017.

  • Run an ongoing outdoor program for Tacoma based OASIS Center for LGBTQ youth.

  • Offer the BORDERLESS (a blend of hip hop and folk musical expression exploring  themes of social justice, educational equity, stewardship, landscape, belonging, and indigeneity include local youth voices and/ or local artists) play-note/ keynote in the Cascadia region at the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) Annual Conference in Spokane, WA, the REACH Center for Multicultural Education Conference, WWU, Bellingham, WA, and the YES! Kickoff Celebration, Auburn, WA.

  • Work with Western Washington University and North Cascades Institute throughout 2017 to create the NW version of the existing NWP Wilderness Program based on NWPwork in Arizona.

  • Produce video and testimonials to promote and inform potential partners for New Wilderness Project NW in Cascadia.
