Occupy Wall Street: "Cascadia is the future"

Occupy Wall Street recently re-published an article written by Tyson Kelsall for Over the Edge, titled "#CascadiaNow? @CascadiaNow!" - and explained why they did so with a quick note at the beginning of the article:

"We're reposting because Cascadia is the future. Stay in the loop."

The article is worth taking a look at - it includes quotes from Autonomy Cascadia's Cathasaigh Ó Corcráin and our very own Brandon Letsinger, among others, and offers a number of fascinating perspectives on the bioregion:

"It is not your typical movement based on the right and left spectrum, nor is it necessarily about protecting a certain culture. More so, it is about creating one, building off the foundation of what already goes on in the westernmost bioregion. It is about decentralizing two governments that seem to disregard what the population wants on the West Coast."

Huffington Post Explains Cascadia

"What Is Cascadia, Anyway?" asks the Huffington Post.

Fortunately, they're happy to explain - with a bunch of pretty pictures and YouTube videos, too!

The article is written from the perspective of a British Columbian, and asks what life would look like in an independent Cascadia - to read the whole thing, visit http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/03/12/what-is-cascadia_n_4944819.html

First Vancouver CN! Meeting and new social media pages

Several folks came in from around South-West British Columbia for the first ever Vancouver BC meetup that took place in Richmond earlier this month. Right now is a great time to be involved, and BC seems to have a great group of folks helping make Cascadia a reality, including in Victoria, Vancouver BC, Richmond, a Kwantlen Polytechnic Chapter, and a South of the Frasier Valley group.

More than 13,000 writers and readers, and over 700 exhibitors were represented at the Association for Writers and Writing Programs Conference that took place at the Washington Convention Center in Seattle last month. Both CascadiaNow! and the Cascadia Poetry Festival had a table, and Cascadia was well represented with speakers and workshops during the weekend

Cascadia Day! May 18th Campaign and Events shaping up

Vancouver Chapter has taken the lead, and put down for a nice an online survey to gauge awareness of the Doug and familiarity with the term 'Cascadia'. In British Columbia at least, only 30% of folks were familiar with the flag, and 33% with the term.

This means we've got some work to do! For this May 18th weekend, we'll be organizing a regional campaign to spread some awareness, and we need your help. For anyone interested, we're going to be putting together collaborative documents and posters introducing Cascadia, the Doug Flag, and May 18th Cascadia Day for send out to newspapers, local governments, community groups, universities, and hope that individuals in communities around the Pacific Northwest will join us in getting them out in their area.

In addition, we're asking individuals and groups to host informal or formal events, activities and distinctively 'Cascadia' events around the region. We'll tie these together through social media like livestream, youtube, email, reddit, twitter, instagram, tumblr and more! #May18 #Cascadiaday. Join us in one of our online groups, reddit - or email a regional coordinator or us directly at cascadianow@gmail.com to get involved.
